Post-Harvesting Vanilla Expert

About the role

The Post-Harvesting Vanilla Expert will provide technical leadership for post‑harvest handling, curing, storage and quality improvement of vanilla for smallholder farmers in Uganda. The role involves direct work with growers, cooperatives and project staff to enhance the vanilla value chain.

Key responsibilities

• Advise and train growers on proper harvesting, curing, storage and processing techniques.
• Implement quality control protocols and grading procedures for vanilla beans.
• Support planning and development of post‑harvest infrastructure and facilities.
• Conduct workshops, field demonstrations and capacity‑building sessions.
• Monitor post‑harvest operations, produce technical reports and recommend improvements.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Food Science or related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in post‑harvest processing of vanilla or similar crops.
• Experience in the non‑profit or development sector.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of local language is an advantage.
• Commitment to gender equality, environmental sustainability and safeguarding.
