Project Manager (Software Projects)

About the role

A recruitment agency is hiring, on behalf of its client, a competent, skilled and experienced Project Manager to work in Uganda. The Project Manager plans, executes and delivers projects within scope, time and budget, manages teams, collaborates with stakeholders, mitigates risks and delivers high-quality solutions. The ideal candidate has a strong background in project management methodologies, excellent leadership skills and the ability to adapt to dynamic environments.

Key responsibilities

• Define project scope, goals and deliverables with stakeholders, and create detailed plans with timelines, milestones and resource allocation.
• Monitor progress and keep projects on schedule and within budget.
• Lead cross-functional teams, coach and mentor team members, and act as main point of contact for stakeholders, clients and vendors.
• Identify risks, prepare contingency plans and manage project budgets through forecasting and expense tracking.
• Promote Agile methods such as Scrum and Kanban, run stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming and retrospectives.
• Manage resources, ensure quality standards and oversee testing processes with QA teams.
• Prepare project reports, maintain documentation and present outcomes to leadership.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in project management or related roles.
• Proven track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
• Experience managing cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of software development lifecycles, especially for web and mobile projects.
• Awareness of user behaviour and challenges in Uganda.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of Agile, Scrum and Waterfall methodologies.
• Proficiency with Jira, Trello or Microsoft Project.
• Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, plus problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
