Research Manager

About the role

The Research Manager (RM) leads the delivery of a portfolio of research projects, ensuring scientific rigor, timely execution, and compliance with donor and regulatory requirements. The role works closely with Principal Investigators, project teams, and partners across the Uganda country program.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the full research lifecycle from planning to close‑out for multiple projects.
• Manage technical, operational, financial, and people‑management aspects, ensuring projects stay on schedule and within budget.
• Ensure compliance with IPA standards, donor requirements, ethical approvals, and Ugandan regulations.
• Develop research staff, manage risks, and contribute to new research and funding opportunities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in economics, statistics, public health, epidemiology, development studies, public policy, or social sciences.
• 4‑5 years of relevant professional experience managing multiple research projects.
• Experience supervising field research, including survey design, implementation, and data‑quality assurance.
• Full professional fluency in written and spoken English and willingness to travel up to 30%.

Required skills

• Quantitative research methods and experience with randomized controlled trials (preferred).
• Statistical software such as Stata, R, or Python.
• Electronic data‑collection platforms like SurveyCTO, KoboToolbox, or ODK.
• Project‑management, budgeting, and financial‑management capabilities.
