Senior Accountant – Finance & Accounting

About the role

Our client, a fast‑growing Ugandan agribusiness, is seeking a self‑driven Senior Accountant to lead general accounting operations and ensure robust financial control. The role involves supervising junior staff, managing AP/AR, handling reconciliations, tax compliance, and driving process improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee end‑to‑end Accounts Payable and Receivable cycles, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
• Prepare and review monthly bank and balance‑sheet reconciliations, resolving discrepancies promptly.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and management reports.
• Participate actively in month‑end and year‑end closing procedures.
• Support tax compliance, corporate tax filings, and internal/external audit processes.
• Recommend and implement enhancements to accounting systems, procedures and internal controls.
• Mentor and supervise junior finance staff, delegating tasks and fostering professional growth.
• Analyze financial performance to identify trends, variances and cost‑saving opportunities.
• Manage office administration, procurement and facilities logistics.
• Maintain up‑to‑date documentation of accounting policies and internal controls.

Required profile

• Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably with supervisory responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger functions and month‑end/year‑end processes.
• Professional qualification such as CMA or CPA is a plus.
