Senior Accountant

About the role

Aptech Africa, an EPC solar company based in Uganda, is looking for a Senior Accountant to lead day-to-day accounting and financial reporting. The role focuses on project-based accounting, statutory compliance and strong internal controls, and supports the CFO in finance operations across several countries and currencies.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated management accounts and financial statements under IFRS, with accurate intercompany reconciliations
• Manage the general ledger, trial balances, month-end and year-end close, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations
• Reconcile intercompany transactions, loans and advances, and confirm month-end debtor and creditor balances across branches
• Investigate reporting differences, maintain consolidation schedules and audit documentation, and respond to external auditor queries
• Monitor daily petty cash across four branches and supervise daily accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations and collections
• Maintain project cost ledgers, prepare project profitability and cost-to-complete reports, and supervise finance staff
• Monitor VAT, PAYE, withholding tax, corporate income tax, NSSF and other statutory obligations, and coordinate tax compliance across countries
• Prepare cash flow forecasts, manage foreign currency transactions and revaluations, and maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules
• Support annual budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis, and strengthen internal controls and approval procedures

Required profile

• MBA (Finance), M.Com or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Finance, Accounting or a related field
• CPA (Uganda), ACCA, CIMA, Chartered Accountant (India) or CMA
• At least 4 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a senior role
• Preferred: EPC, engineering, energy or manufacturing experience; multi-currency and multi-entity reporting experience; donor and financier reporting experience
• Working knowledge of English

Required skills

• Strong working knowledge of IFRS and Ugandan tax law (VAT, PAYE, withholding tax)
• ERP or accounting software such as Tally, QuickBooks or Odoo
• Advanced Excel
