Senior Communication Officer – Information Services and Media Relations

About the role

The Senior Communication Officer (Information Services and Media Relations) will lead the Council’s public information and media engagement, ensuring accurate, timely, and strategic dissemination of messages across all channels.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and review information and digital communication strategies aligned with the Council’s mandate.
• Disseminate coherent messaging across traditional media, digital platforms and social media to enhance visibility.
• Support internal communication initiatives that promote transparency and staff engagement.
• Draft communication policies, guidelines, SOPs and manage content approval workflows.
• Identify and engage with print, broadcast, online and digital media platforms; prepare press releases, statements and talking points.
• Organise press conferences, media briefings, interviews and public announcements.
• Maintain a comprehensive media contacts database and nurture professional relationships.
• Monitor media coverage, social media trends and public sentiment; produce analytics reports and advise on reputational risks.
• Lead crisis communication and issues management, preparing holding statements and response protocols.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or related field (post‑graduate qualification required).
• At least six years of relevant professional experience with a focus on media relations and information services.
• Proven experience working with national and international media houses.
• Strong writing, editing and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to exercise sound judgement, tact and diplomacy in sensitive situations.
