Technical Author (Product-focused)

About the role

Canonical is seeking a Technical Author to create, maintain, and improve software documentation for its products. This fully remote position allows you to collaborate with global teams and influence product development through clear, user‑focused documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Create and update documentation for Canonical’s software products.
• Work closely with developers and community members to ensure documentation meets user needs.
• Standardise structure, style, and language across product documentation.
• Engage with open‑source communities to encourage contributions and feedback.
• Collaborate with documentation peers to advance best practices.

Required profile

• Excellent collaborator and communicator with a passion for written communication.
• Technical writer with a programmer’s mindset or a programmer with strong documentation experience.
• Active involvement in open‑source communities or similar collaborative environments.
• Demonstrated curiosity about software technology and its challenges.
• Ability to travel twice a year for up to two weeks for events.
