Technical Officer – Infection Prevention & Control

About the role

The Technical Officer will provide technical support to implement infection prevention and control (IPC) across national, sub‑national and district levels. The role focuses on strengthening IPC capacity for routine services and outbreak responses.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, review and update IPC training materials and organise trainings for regional referral hospitals, faith‑based and private sector organisations.
• Support IPC mentorship programmes, maintain records of trained rapid response teams and assist regions in implementing preparedness and response plans.
• Strengthen healthcare worker (HCW) protection by enhancing surveillance, disseminating exposure management protocols and training IPC committees on digitised incident reporting tools.
• Monitor district IPC assessments via the IPC dashboard, identify gaps, and support reporting and response to healthcare‑associated infections.
• Contribute to the national HCAI surveillance plan, streamline routine HCW surveillance reporting using e‑IDSR tools, and provide technical oversight for mentorship activities.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of professional experience in IPC within healthcare facilities, public health programmes or emergency response settings.
• Demonstrated experience implementing IPC programmes at national, regional or facility level, including assessments, audits and quality‑improvement activities.
• Experience working with ministries of health, WHO, NGOs or other emergency response structures is an advantage.

• Surveillance and data collection, analysis and reporting for HCW and HCAI.
• Use of digitised incident reporting tools and e‑IDSR platforms.
• IPC dashboard monitoring and gap analysis.
