About the role

The Department of Anaesthesia at Makerere University is seeking an Assistant Lecturer to join its academic team. This full‑time position involves teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervising research, and contributing to community outreach initiatives.

Key responsibilities

  • Teach, examine and grade students in anaesthesia courses.
  • Supervise student research projects and theses.
  • Mentor junior academic and clinical staff.
  • Conduct research and community outreach activities related to anaesthetic practice.
  • Write grant proposals to attract funding for departmental projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Department.

Required profile

  • Master of Medicine (MMed) in Anaesthesia or an equivalent postgraduate specialist qualification.
  • Upper second class Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council and a valid Annual Practicing License.
  • At least two years of relevant teaching or clinical experience.
