General Manager – Transport

About the role

We are seeking an experienced General Manager to lead our transport division in Jinja, Uganda. The role oversees fleet operations, integrates transport with the broader supply chain, and drives financial performance for a leading FMCG and beverage distributor in East Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily dispatch, maintenance, routing and telematics monitoring of the transport fleet to minimise downtime and fuel use.
• Synchronise transport schedules with procurement, warehousing and sales to ensure smooth goods flow.
• Hold full P&L responsibility, develop budgets, negotiate 3PL contracts and approve high‑value tenders.
• Enforce local and international transport regulations, driver standards and workplace safety.
• Negotiate contracts with shipping vendors, suppliers and key corporate clients to optimise service‑level agreements.
• Oversee preventive maintenance programmes, repair activities and maintenance budgeting.
• Recruit, train and mentor drivers, mechanics and logistics coordinators.

Required profile

• Graduate in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or related field.
• Minimum 15 years of experience in transport, logistics or supply‑chain management.
• Proven experience managing large fleets and multi‑country operations (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia is a plus).
