Regional Education in Emergencies Advisor – PlayMatters

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Regional Education in Emergencies Advisor for PlayMatters, a four‑year education initiative (2026‑2030) that aims to improve well‑being and holistic learning outcomes for pre‑primary and primary children affected by conflict in Ethiopia, South Sudan and Uganda. The advisor will oversee the PlayMatters Crisis Modifier (CM) and the Education in Emergencies (EiE) strategy, working under the Deputy Project Director – Technical.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of the Crisis Modifier strategy across the three countries.
• Provide capacity‑strengthening support and ensure technical quality assurance for the CM.
• Collaborate with PlayMatters Country Project Management Committees (PMCs) and consortium partners.
• Facilitate learning and knowledge sharing from CM implementation.
• Coordinate with the IRC Global Practice Lead for Foundational Learning and the Senior Technical Advisor for Education in Emergencies.

Required profile

• Experience working on education programs in emergency or humanitarian contexts.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multi‑country project teams and partners.
• Reporting to and receiving guidance from the Deputy Project Director – Technical.
