Casual Steward – Food & Beverage

About the role

This part‑time position supports the Food & Beverage team by maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in kitchen and service areas. The steward works on‑site at the Marriott property in Kamwokya, Kampala.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain cleaning equipment such as dish‑washing machines, hand‑wash stations, pot‑scrubbing stations and trash compactors.
• Wash, disinfect and sanitize kitchen tools, knives, dishes, silverware and store‑room items using a three‑compartment sink.
• Receive deliveries, store perishables correctly, rotate stock and ensure clean wares are stored in appropriate areas.
• Empty and maintain trashcans, dumpsters and recycling bins; break down cardboard and glass for proper disposal.
• Clean and mop all assigned department areas, and report any maintenance or safety issues to the manager.

Required profile

• No high school diploma or GED required.
• No prior related work experience required.
• Ability to lift, carry, push or pull objects up to 50 lb without assistance.
• Capability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods and perform repetitive motions such as bending, twisting and stooping.

Required skills

• Use of cleaning chemicals, detergents and sanitizing agents in a commercial kitchen environment.
• Operation of commercial dish‑washing equipment and three‑compartment sink procedures.
