Data Center Technician – On-site in Kampala

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Data Center Technician to provide on‑site support for mission‑critical infrastructure at a premier data centre in Kampala, Uganda. The position is contract/freelance with flexible scheduling and includes remote‑hands and smart‑hands services.

Key responsibilities

• Perform hardware installations, decommissions, and migrations.
• Execute structured cabling for copper (Cat5e/6/6a) and fiber optic (single‑mode/multi‑mode).
• Conduct server racking, stacking, and labeling for Dell, HP, and Supermicro equipment.
• Carry out cross‑connects and patch‑panel work.
• Troubleshoot connectivity and hardware issues.
• Document all work with photos and detailed notes.
• Coordinate with remote NOC and client teams.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of data‑center or IT‑infrastructure experience.
• Strong cabling skills (Cat5e/6/6a, single‑mode/multi‑mode fiber).
• Experience with server hardware (Dell, HP, Supermicro).
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in raised‑floor environments.
• Own transportation and ability to work on‑site.
• Professional communication skills in English.
• Data‑center certifications (CDCP, CDCS) – preferred.
• Network certifications (CCNA, CompTIA Network+) – preferred.
