Assistant Accountant

About the role

The Assistant Accountant will support the Finance Department of Uganda Christian University by handling day‑to‑day accounting tasks, ensuring accurate record‑keeping, and assisting with financial reporting. This full‑time, onsite position requires a detail‑oriented professional with a strong accounting background.

Key responsibilities

• Enter payment vouchers and manage bank statement filing for all university accounts.
• Answer student queries regarding fee status and provide banking information to senior finance staff.
• Prepare adjustments and reports on financial anomalies for the Director of Finance.
• Check and verify payroll accuracy for full‑time and part‑time staff.
• Review monthly trial balances and ensure proper filing of vouchers, cheques, receipts, and supporting documents.
• Manage donated funds receipt, statutory deductions, budget projections, and monitoring.
• Conduct bank reconciliations, cash‑book reconciliations, and petty‑cash float reconciliations.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Bursar.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration or Business Science with a focus on Accounting and Finance.
• Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA Part II, ACCA, CIA, FIA).
• Minimum two years of relevant experience in a large public or private organization.
• Proficiency with relevant accounting software packages.
• Ability to work under pressure and a committed, mature Christian.
