Experienced Accountant

About the role

An electrical contracting company is looking for a detail-oriented, experienced Accountant to join its team in Kampala, Uganda. The role covers financial record keeping, compliance with accounting standards and the provision of accurate financial information to support management decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and meet reporting deadlines.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and oversee journal entries.
• Manage accounts payable and receivable, including timely payments and collections.
• Assist with budgets and forecasts, monitor performance and provide variance analysis.
• Prepare and file tax returns and handle tax-related inquiries.
• Coordinate with external auditors, prepare documentation and respond to audit queries.
• Oversee payroll processing and resolve employee payroll inquiries.
• Monitor project costs, perform cost analysis and give financial insight to project managers.
• Maintain financial systems and software, and ensure data integrity and security.
• Ensure adherence to accounting policies and develop internal controls to protect company assets.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounts, Finance or Business Management; MBA, CPA or ACCA preferred.
• Overall 5-8 years of accounting experience, preferably in the contracting or construction industry.
