About the role
We are seeking an experienced Logistics Operations Supervisor to lead and optimise the Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Uganda. The role ensures operational excellence, regulatory compliance and delivers safe, cost‑effective logistics services that meet customer expectations.
Key responsibilities
- Lead end‑to‑end ICD operations, including container handling, verification, yard management, gate operations, documentation flow and dispatch.
- Coordinate inbound and outbound cargo movements and optimise yard planning, container stacking, space utilisation and equipment deployment.
- Maintain high operational productivity while meeting service level agreements and customer expectations.
- Continuously assess and improve standard operating procedures to enhance efficiency, accuracy and safety.
- Manage facility, equipment and human‑resource utilisation to minimise costs, including fuel and equipment usage.
- Supervise, coach and develop ICD staff, handling performance management and workload allocation.
- Ensure timely cargo clearance with UNBS, URA, CROP and other relevant authorities.
- Support business growth by aligning ICD capabilities with customer requirements and CEVA’s service offerings.
- Collaborate with commercial, key‑account and customer‑service teams to deliver reliable logistics solutions and resolve service issues.
- Build strong relationships with internal functions and act as the operational contact for external stakeholders such as URA and UNBS.
- Represent the ICD in management reviews, audits and regulator meetings.
- Ensure full compliance with customs regulations, local laws and CEVA policies, promoting a strong safety culture.
- Oversee gate control, cargo verification processes and conduct regular safety audits and training.
- Monitor financial performance, budgeting, forecasting and KPI metrics such as dwell time and truck turnaround.
Required profile
- Proven experience supervising ICD or similar logistics operations.
- Strong knowledge of Ugandan customs and regulatory bodies (UNBS, URA, CROP).
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage performance and drive continuous improvement.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
