Post-Harvesting Vanilla Expert

About the role

The Post-Harvesting Vanilla Expert will provide technical leadership on post‑harvest handling, curing, storage and quality improvement for vanilla growers in Uganda. The role involves direct work with smallholder farmers and local cooperatives, as well as field missions to Iganga, Jinja and Mukono.

Key responsibilities

• Advise and train growers on proper harvesting, curing, storage and processing techniques.
• Implement quality control protocols and grading procedures.
• Support planning and set‑up of post‑harvest infrastructure and facilities.
• Conduct workshops, field demonstrations and capacity‑building sessions.
• Monitor post‑harvest operations and produce technical reports with recommendations.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Food Science or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience in post‑harvest processing of vanilla or similar crops.
• Experience working in the non‑profit or development sector.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of a local language is an advantage.
• Understanding of sustainable post‑harvest practices and value‑chain development.
