Accounts Assistant

About the role

CIC Insurance Group, an insurance and financial services organization listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange, is hiring an Accounts Assistant in Kampala. Reporting to the Accountant, the role supports the Finance Department in maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions and assisting with financial reporting while complying with company policies and statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries, maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, and assist with monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements
• Support month-end and year-end closing and keep accounting records and files accurate and organized
• Perform bank, cash, supplier and customer reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and support internal controls
• Review supplier invoices and payments, monitor receivables and support debt collection, and maintain accurate aging analysis
• Assist with statutory returns such as PAYE, VAT, NSSF, NHIF and withholding tax, and keep statutory records
• Assist in budget preparation and monitoring, flagging variances and recommending corrective actions
• Prepare audit schedules, support internal and external audits and help identify and mitigate risks in finance operations

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance or Business Administration
• Progress in professional accounting courses (CPA/ACCA) is an added advantage
• Minimum of 2 years' relevant experience

Required skills

• Strong numerical and analytical skills and attention to detail
• Knowledge of basic accounting principles
• Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel
• Good organizational and time management skills, integrity and confidentiality
