Assistant Import Manager

About the role

Q-Sourcing, a manpower management firm operating in East Africa, is recruiting an Assistant Import Manager in Kampala on behalf of its client EACOP. The role reports to the Import Manager and supports inbound flows on the Kampala-DRC routes (Kisangani and Beni) and monitors the Mombasa-Kampala corridor. It is a hands-on, Kampala-based position, ideally suited to a Ugandan national who understands logistics and the Mombasa/Kampala-DRC corridor.

Key responsibilities

• Track every truck from Kampala to final delivery in Kisangani and Beni, and monitor Mombasa port through Kenya to Kampala, including loading, transit times, stops and arrival at ICDs
• Monitor live truck positions on the GPS tracking platform several times a day, flagging stops, deviations and delays, and maintain a daily fleet/shipment position report
• Keep clients and internal teams informed of status and ETA changes
• Follow up trucks through the Uganda-DRC border points (e.g. Mpondwe/Kasindi, Goli/Mahagi) from arrival to release, liaising with drivers, clearing agents and border staff, and escalate queues, holds or missing documents early
• Prepare, check and file import and transit documents (bill of lading, commercial invoice, packing list, customs declarations, DRC import documents) and follow up clearing agents on pending entries and releases
• Track containers at ICDs and depots (Mombasa, Nairobi, Kampala area) and monitor storage, demurrage and empty container returns
• Gather proof of delivery and trip evidence for subcontractor validation, keep trackers and the shipment database accurate, and back up the Import Manager when travelling or unavailable

Required profile

• Ugandan national based in Kampala with a solid understanding of logistics and freight forwarding
• 1-3 years of experience in import, transit, clearing or transport operations
• Knowledge of the Mombasa-Kampala and Uganda-DRC corridors, border procedures, ICD operations and import/transit documentation
• Organized, detail-oriented and proactive, able to follow many shipments at once
• Good communicator with drivers, agents and border staff; English required, Swahili and/or French an asset
