Engineer-Technician (Kitchen)

About the role

JW Marriott in Kampala is hiring a full-time, non-management Engineer-Technician (Kitchen) to handle guest repair requests and maintain the hotel's kitchen equipment and MEP systems. The role involves responding to maintenance issues with little to no supervision and communicating daily problems to other shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to guest repair requests and resolve maintenance issues with minimal supervision
• Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, including cleaning and lubrication, and visually inspect them
• Carry equipment, identify and operate shut-off valves, and maintain maintenance inventory and requisition parts
• Communicate daily activities and problems to other shifts through approved programs and standards
• Perform complex repairs on electrical, plumbing, mechanical, air conditioning, refrigeration and pool heater equipment, following company standards and local and national codes
• Troubleshoot and repair pumps, motors, toilets, drains, lamps, HVAC, switches, outlets, TVs and other equipment
• Use the Lockout/Tagout system before maintenance work
• Read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics for plumbing and HVAC, and troubleshoot hotel MEP systems
• Train and mentor other engineers, and perform Engineer on Duty duties including readings and rounds
• Follow safety and security policies, complete safety training, and treat guests professionally

Required profile

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and vocational or technical background preferred
• At least 2 years of hotel engineering/maintenance experience preferred
• Extensive experience in general maintenance, electrical or refrigeration, parts inventory and requisition, and surface preparation and painting preferred
• Valid driver's license
• No supervisory experience required

Required skills

• CFC certification
• Proficiency in at least three of: air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic systems and controls, carpentry and finish skills, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, general building management
• Advanced knowledge of engineering computer programs for preventative maintenance and energy management
• Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics
