Field Officer - Cash Transfer Program

About the role

GiveDirectly is hiring a Field Officer in Karamoja District, Uganda, to deliver its cash transfer program to donors and recipients. The officer carries out and supports field activities depending on team assignment and daily needs, mainly executing the recipient surveys and processes behind the cash transfer model. The role reports to the Associate Field Manager and is a short-term, field-based contract of 3 months, with applications processed on a rolling basis.

Key responsibilities

• Census team: explain the program to villages and eligible households, meet village elders and guides to understand boundaries, visit every household, and complete census surveys with accurate digital data.
• Registration team: provide cell phones where needed, ensure someone in the household can use the phone to access transfers, identify and remove ineligible households, and reinforce program information.
• Follow-up team: follow up surveys by calling or visiting recipients to confirm receipt of transfers, answer hotline calls and escalate problems, help people register correctly with mobile money, and manage adverse events such as intra-household conflict or reports of bribery.

Required profile

• Ngakarimojong language.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
• At least 1 year of experience in the humanitarian sector and 1-2 years in the field with vulnerable communities.
• Previous field experience with vulnerable communities (1-2 years minimum).
• Physical fitness and ability to cope with difficult weather or terrain.

Required skills

• Data entry on computers and mobile devices (Commcare, Salesforce, Google suite).
• Empathy, honesty, integrity, patience and good judgment in resolving recipient problems.
