Head of Boarding (Girls)

About the role

The Head of Boarding (Girls) leads the pastoral life of six boarding houses at Gayaza School. Reporting to senior school leadership, this role is responsible for the overall welfare, safety and development of resident girls and for guiding the house‑mistresses and matron.

Key responsibilities

• Line‑manage the six House Mistresses and the school Matron.
• Lead the safeguarding response and chair weekly pastoral case conferences.
• Run the prefect‑development programme in partnership with the Deputy Head Pastoral.
• Maintain and update the boarding‑life handbook and organise parent briefings each term.
• Coordinate the residential Open Day for prospective S1 and S5 girls.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a recognised teaching qualification.
• Senior pastoral leadership experience in a girls’ boarding school.
• Demonstrable safeguarding leadership and up‑to‑date child‑protection training.
• Willingness to reside on‑site in the provided three‑bedroom accommodation.
• Preferably a counselling qualification or supervised counselling experience.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of child protection policies and safeguarding procedures.
• Experience in managing residential staff and developing student leadership programmes.
