Outlet Assistant (Fish Processing)

About the role

The Outlet Assistant works in the Sales department at a fish outlet in Uganda, reporting to the Outlet Supervisor. The role covers stock receipt, weighing, icing, housekeeping, order preparation and customer service, with the aim of ensuring precision, quality and efficiency while meeting sales targets and safety and hygiene standards.

Key responsibilities

• Drive sales growth through initiatives and excellent customer service, including store appearance, fish display, stock ordering, SKU layout and selling.
• Follow up and escalate customer complaints until satisfactory solutions are reached.
• Receive stock, organise and maintain inventory so fridges are always stocked, and perform regular quality checks on fish, enforcing proper icing and the outlet's red stock SOP.
• Take and prepare customer orders, pack them and enter transactions into the POS.
• Assist the Supervisor with cash handling, cash reconciliations, change, POS sales capture, pricing, inventory control, receipting and end-of-day stock reconciliation.
• Maintain hygiene standards and attend scheduled training; report health and safety concerns and inspect equipment such as fridges, POS and weighing scales.
• Submit reports on time and follow Workstream procedures, retail SOPs and policies.

Required profile

• Diploma or equivalent in Business Administration or a related field.
• Credit in Mathematics at UCE and a Principal Pass in Economics or Entrepreneurship Education at UACE.
• 2 years' experience in fish processing/handling or a related field is advantageous.
• Willingness to work long hours and in a multicultural environment.

Required skills

• Good grasp of English and local languages.
• Attention to detail in handling, sorting, grading and packing fish.
• Knowledge of safety protocols and commitment to hygiene standards.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and communicate positively.

Working conditions involve handling weights, standing for long periods and exposure to fish odour, so personal protective equipment must be used.
