Senior Finance Manager

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Senior Finance Manager to lead day‑to‑day accounting and financial management for the five‑year ReSET programme in Uganda. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Finance, you will ensure compliance with IRC policies, UK FCDO requirements and GAAP while supporting refugee and host‑community interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations for the ReSET project, including journal entries, reconciliations and month‑end close.
• Prepare and review financial statements, budgets, forecasts and variance analyses for senior management and donors.
• Ensure adherence to IRC financial policies, donor regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Coordinate with field offices, OPM, UN agencies and consortium partners to align financial reporting across multiple refugee settlements.
• Support internal and external audits, providing required documentation and explanations.
• Train and mentor junior finance staff on best practices and compliance requirements.

Required profile

• University degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive finance experience, preferably in large NGOs or international development projects.
• Demonstrated experience managing multi‑million‑dollar budgets and donor‑funded programmes.
• Strong analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
