Senior Underwriter - Business Development

About the role

Old Mutual is seeking a Senior Underwriter to lead underwriting operations, assess risks and ensure high‑quality service delivery. The role involves supervising staff, maintaining compliance, and driving profitability through effective client and intermediary engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Determine acceptability of risks, recommend risk surveys and monitor account terms.
• Supervise, train and mentor staff and intermediaries on technical underwriting matters.
• Approve issuance of underwriting documents and prepare renewal notices.
• Ensure premiums are paid according to agreed plans and manage premium refunds.
• Maintain effective business relationships and monitor service standards.
• Review account performance to keep loss ratio below 70% and conduct regular client/intermediary visits.
• Prepare quotations, manage reinsurance cards for large risks and support EDMS users.

Required profile

• University degree in Actuarial Science, Finance or Business and a Diploma in Insurance.
• Minimum 5 years of underwriting experience.
• Strong knowledge of the insurance market and re‑insurance processes.
• Experience with anti‑money laundering (AML) and compliance procedures.
