Special Education Assistant (Medically Fragile) – 1 FTE

About the role

The Special Education Assistant provides one‑to‑one support to medically fragile students in a K‑8 setting. Working closely with classroom teachers, the assistant helps adapt instruction, monitor behavior, and ensure the health and safety of each student throughout the school day.

Key responsibilities

• Adapt classroom activities, assignments and materials to enable full participation of special education students.
• Administer first aid, CPR and other medical assistance as required.
• Support students with personal care needs related to medical conditions or physical limitations.
• Collaborate daily with special‑education and mainstream teachers to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives.
• Communicate student progress to teachers and parents via meetings, calls or written notes.
• Implement behavioral plans for students with behavior disorders, ensuring a safe and consistent environment.
• Instruct students in academic, social and daily‑living skills in both individual and group settings.
• Maintain instructional materials, student records and attendance logs.
