Special Education Assistant (Resource) – 1.0 FTE

About the role

The Special Education Assistant (Resource) works within the resource service pathway to support middle‑school students with diverse special‑education needs. The role assists teachers in delivering adapted instruction, monitoring behavior, and ensuring a safe, inclusive classroom environment.

Key responsibilities

• Adapt classroom activities, assignments and materials under teacher direction to enable full participation of special‑education students.
• Administer tests, homework, and other instructional materials, and assist in evaluating student progress.
• Provide first aid and medical assistance as needed, and support personal care for students with medical or physical limitations.
• Attend IEP meetings, in‑service trainings, and other professional development sessions.
• Collaborate regularly with special‑education and mainstream teachers to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives.
• Communicate student progress to teachers and parents through calls, emails, and written notes.
• Implement behavioral plans for students with behavior disorders, ensuring safety and consistency.
• Instruct individual or small groups in academic, social, and daily‑living skills.
• Maintain instructional materials, student files, and records.
