Special Education Teacher (Medically Fragile) – 1.0 FTE

About the role

This full‑time position supports medically fragile students within the Orca K‑8 special education pathway. Working under the direction of the building principal, the teacher creates and adapts individualized learning plans to meet each student's unique needs.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver instructional programs tailored to individual special‑education students, preparing lesson plans and modifying curricula as needed (40%).
• Utilize appropriate instructional methods and materials, attend in‑service training, and stay current with special‑education techniques (15%).
• Establish and enforce classroom policies, provide guidance, counseling, and discipline, and refer students for additional support when appropriate (10%).
• Maintain open communication with students, parents, guardians, specialists, and staff to support student achievement (5%).
• Set classroom goals aligned with individual education programs, evaluate progress, and prepare reports for families (10%).
• Supervise non‑certificated personnel and attend to students' physical, emotional, behavioral, medical, and hygienic needs (5%).
• Collect and interpret data, develop and evaluate IEPs, and generate administrative reports (10%).
• Assist with or direct staff in addressing students' various needs (5%).

• Capacity to manage classroom behavior positively and provide appropriate counseling.
