Business Director & Principal Officer – Uganda

About the role

We are seeking a Business Director who will also act as the statutory Principal Officer for our client’s operations in Uganda. The role combines commercial leadership – driving B2B partnerships and revenue – with full responsibility for regulatory compliance under the Insurance Act, 2017.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the Uganda business plan, own P&L and set commercial strategy.
• Identify, negotiate and close strategic B2B partnerships with insurers, mobile network operators, banks, MFIs and corporates to grow health and insurance premium volumes.
• Manage the end‑to‑end sales cycle for key accounts, from prospecting to onboarding and performance monitoring.
• Serve as the registered Principal Officer with the Insurance Regulatory Authority, ensuring timely filing of returns, risk reports and governance documentation.
• Provide quarterly performance, financial and compliance updates to the Board and Group leadership.
• Recruit, coach and lead a high‑performing local team, fostering a culture of accountability and customer‑first execution.
• Continuously explore new growth opportunities and refine the business model.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of senior‑level experience in insurance, micro‑insurance or digital health business development.
• Proven track record of generating B2B revenue and managing strategic partnerships.
• Deep understanding of Uganda’s insurance regulatory framework and experience acting as a principal officer or similar compliance role.
• Strong P&L ownership and commercial strategy experience.
• Leadership experience building and managing small high‑performing teams.
