About the role
The Emergency Vehicle Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of fire department apparatus and heavy equipment, including fire trucks, ARFF vehicles, ambulances, and associated hydraulic and pneumatic systems. This role ensures that all emergency vehicles are safe, reliable, and ready for rapid deployment.
Key responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, repair, and servicing of fire vehicles and equipment, including structural ARFF and ambulance apparatus.
- Conduct heavy‑equipment maintenance activities such as installation, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance.
- Remove, inspect, and replace engines and mechanical units using computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
- Repair and overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, including air‑conditioning units.
- Calibrate load‑monitoring indicators and rebuild hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drive units, suspensions, springs, bushings, and kingpins.
- Replace seals, bearings, axle brakes, and perform crane rigging tasks.
- Document work orders, invoices, repair records, and activity reports.
- Adhere to safety policies, handle hazardous waste properly, and perform recovery operations as needed.
Required profile
- Minimum two years of heavy‑vehicle maintenance experience in emergency, civilian, military, or tactical environments.
- High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license.
- Prefer EVT Level 1 certification for fire apparatus, ambulance, or ARFF.
- Ability to stand, walk, lift up to 50 lb (assist up to 100 lb) and perform physical tasks required on the shop floor.

- Reading schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
