Heavy Goods Truck Driver (Containerized Cargo)

About the role

AGL, a multimodal logistics operator part of the MSC Group, is hiring a Heavy Goods Truck Driver in Kampala, Uganda. The driver transports containerized cargo safely and efficiently between designated locations, keeping cargo secure and compliant with traffic laws and safety regulations. The position is a full-time fixed-term contract.

Key responsibilities

• Transport containerized cargo to and from designated locations, following routes and schedules set by management.
• Load and unload cargo safely, handle and stack containers properly, and keep container stacks accessible.
• Ensure cargo is properly secured and protected during transport, and maintain accurate records of cargo and delivery details.
• Inspect and maintain vehicles and equipment, report faults to the workshop, and alert personnel to any anomalies or malfunctions.
• Provide professional and courteous service to clients and colleagues, and wear personal protective equipment at all times.

Required profile

• Ordinary certificate of education (level 4).
• Valid commercial driver's license (CE).
• At least 3 years of experience driving heavy trucks carrying containerized cargo.
• Knowledge of weight distribution, vehicle maintenance and road safety regulations.
• Ability to work independently, in different weather conditions and in a noisy environment, and to lift and move heavy objects (50-100 lbs).
• Good vision, hearing and alertness; able to sit for long periods and work long hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Required skills

• Operating heavy trucks such as 45 ft. and 50 ft. container trucks, flatbed trucks, reefers and chassis.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and requirements.
• Ability to use GPS and maps.
• Formal knowledge of repairing and maintaining lifting equipment and heavy machines is an added advantage.
