Workshop Manager (Freight Forwarding Operations)

About the role

Africa Global Logistics (U) Limited, Integrated Logistics Services - Tilenga Limited, a subsidiary of the MSC Group, is looking for a Workshop Manager in Kampala. The role oversees the day-to-day administrative operations of the workshop, including procurement, inventory, job planning and preventive maintenance, and is a permanent, full-time position.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate daily workshop operations: procurement, inventory management and control, job planning and preventive maintenance scheduling.
• Lead daily coordination meetings with the Workshop Administrator and foremen to plan activities, monitor progress and act on challenges.
• Supervise the use of workshop management systems (MAXIMO and/or other approved systems) and ensure accurate data entry.
• Conduct regular stock counts (at least quarterly) with Finance, reconcile physical stock with records and fix variances.
• Manage procurement of spare parts, tyres, oils and lubricants, including international procurement, and control LPO books and the petty cash float.
• Benchmark spare part pricing, appoint vendors through a transparent process and negotiate price and credit terms.
• Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly operational and performance reports, and act as Super User for the workshop systems.
• Help draft SOPs, monitor anomalies such as cost per unit and spare parts pricing, and ensure QHSE compliance and good housekeeping.

Required profile

• Minimum of 5 years' experience in administration, workshop, automotive or a similar field.
• Engineering or mechanical training preferred.
• Proven ability to manage and supervise a team, with a record of developing team members.
• Good understanding of electro-hydraulic systems and knowledge of URA customs procedures.
• Experience managing a fleet of more than 20 trucks.

Required skills

• Computer literacy with strong Excel, Word and SPSS skills.
• Experience with fleet management systems (Telematix preferred).
• Written and spoken English, report writing and independent work.
