Yard Marshall (M/F) – Freight Forwarding Operations

About the role

AGL, a multimodal logistics operator part of the MSC Group, is hiring a Yard Marshall (M/F) in Kampala, Uganda. The Yard Marshall ensures the safe and efficient movement, positioning and stacking of containers and trucks in the yard through accurate hand signals, radio instructions and coordination with equipment operators and ground staff. The position is permanent and full-time.

Key responsibilities

• Guide trucks, forklifts, reach-stackers, cranes and shunters using correct and recognised hand signals, and ensure safe distances between equipment, personnel and cargo.
• Report unsafe acts, near misses and equipment defects immediately.
• Direct trucks to loading, offloading, parking and inspection zones and support shunting operations.
• Coordinate with forklift and reach-stacker operators to align with container bays and keep traffic flowing smoothly.
• Confirm container numbers before loading and offloading, verify bay locations and guide operators to the correct stack positions.
• Support physical checks of container condition where assigned, relay instructions between logistics officers and ground operators, and record operational movements when required.
• Maintain clear radio communication with yard supervisors and equipment operators and report delays or anomalies.

Required profile

• O-Level or A-Level certificate (minimum).
• At least two years of experience in an ICD, depot or related environment.
• Safety training (OSH, defensive operations, signalling) preferred.
• Physical fitness and ability to stand for long periods.

Required skills

• Excellent understanding of yard hand signals and radio communication codes.
• Good knowledge of container operations (loading, offloading, stacking).
• Ability to work in high-pressure, fast-moving environments.
• Basic problem-solving and incident-reporting ability.
