Head of Investment Banking

About the role

Standard Bank Group is seeking a senior leader to head its Investment Banking division, focusing on Debt Financing Solutions (DFS). The role oversees end‑to‑end design and delivery of client‑centric debt solutions, driving revenue, market share and the CIB brand as the go‑to lending bank.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, manage and deliver the DFS capability across multiple portfolios and complex client relationships.
• Originate, structure and implement debt solutions aligned with global strategy to optimise client and shareholder returns.
• Develop and expand internal and external stakeholder networks to generate cross‑sell opportunities and new pipelines.
• Monitor market, regulatory and industry trends to shape CIB business strategy and thought leadership.
• Oversee pitch‑book planning, approve proposals and provide expert recommendations for client engagements.
• Lead client engagements as the trusted debt‑solutions advisor, ensuring solutions meet client needs and CIB outcomes.
• Direct portfolio origination activities, set performance targets and adjust strategies as required.
• Guide the conceptual design of financial models, ensuring validity and reliability.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in investment banking or debt financing.
• Strong client‑centric mindset with a track record of delivering high‑impact solutions.
• Extensive network of internal and external stakeholders and ability to drive cross‑sell initiatives.
• Deep understanding of market trends, regulatory environment and industry dynamics.
• Excellent communication and advisory skills for senior client interactions.
